Doug Pike
Brother Doug Pike is Vice President for Nova Scotia. There are eight Locals in Nova Scotia representing 1,590 UNDE brothers and sisters. Brother Doug resides with his wife Mona in Truro, NS, 113 km north of Halifax. His home Local is 80409 Shearwater. He was a member of the Local at CFS Debert before downsizing reduced the civilian workforce to only seven.
Doug was a shop steward and a member of the Local executive at CFS Barrington before its closure. He accepted a position at CFS Debert and four months later was elected president of the Debert Local. With the decision of Brother Ron Woodland not to seek re-election, Doug stood for election as RVP-Nova Scotia in 1993 and was elected. He was re-elected in 1996 as VP-Nova Scotia. At the 1999 Convention, he was re-elected VP-Nova Scotia, unopposed, and acclaimed at both the 2002 Convention in Montreal and the 2005 Convention in Halifax.
Since his election as a national officer he has served on various committees including standing bylaws, standing finance, and human resources. He is presently chair of the Finance Committee, UNDE EAP OPI and Chair of the FR Steering Committee. Doug's leadership and experience at the local, regional and national levels are evident by the respect that not only the members, but also management, have for him.
Brother Doug has seen first hand in Nova Scotia what base closures and downsizing have done to our sisters and brothers. He worked tirelessly in an effort to stop the closure of bases and stations, i.e. CFB Cornwallis and CFS Shelburne. It became apparent that the government would proceed with the closures no matter what the economical and human cost. Doug then devoted all his efforts to ensuring that as many of his sisters and brothers who were able and willing to relocate were offered positions in the Defence department or other government departments. Doug believes that ASD, with the SCP and SSSR, will have a more devastating effect on our members if we don't put all our efforts into fighting this disease that the department has unleashed on us all. He believes that this is a fightback campaign that must be won!
Doug is committed to working with all our members to defend their rights and to ensure that each and every member of our union not only has a voice in our union but that their concerns are fully addressed.
