Union Services Officer - Bilingual

Invitation to apply in this competition is being made to:

a) employees of UNDE;
b) employees (members of the Alliance Employees' Union) of the PSAC and its components.

Location

The UNDE National Office, Ottawa, Ontario

Duties

Under the general direction of the UNDE Executive Vice-President, the successful candidate will:

- advise and assist UNDE members on matters relating to the interpretation and application of collective agreements, federal public service legislation and related regulations and procedures;
- prepare briefs, reports and letters on behalf of members in support of grievances, complaints and appeals;
- provide third level representation on grievances before departmental authorities, labor tribunals, commissions, etc;
- prepare and forward grievance files for arbitration hearings;
- attend specified local and management meetings; and
- support and promote union goals and objectives as well as PSAC and UNDE Constitution, Bylaws and Regulations.

Knowledge and Experience

- Experience in providing direct representation to union members;
- Knowledge of National Joint Council (NJC) Directives, Treasury Board policies and directives, PSSRA/PSLRA, PSEA, Canada Labour Code, and Financial Administration Act;
- Demonstrated ability to interpret collective agreement language;
- Demonstrated ability to research jurisprudence and develop cases;
- Familiarity with Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) and Informal Conflict Management (ICMS);
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing in both English and French;
- High level of interpersonal skills;
- Knowledge of union principles; and
- Knowledge of DND will be considered an asset.

Salary

$64,676 (USO 2 - Step 2) in accordance AEU Unit 14 Collective Agreement.
