KINGSTON LOCAL EXECUTIVE TRG – (Completion of modules) |
KINGSTON |
The Kingston Local Executive, minus the 3rd Vice President, participated in Local Executive Training from 5-7 May in Kingston, and was followed up on June 10th with a Team Building course. The 3rd Vice President resigned his position, just before the final instalment of training, which was conducted in Kingston on 28-30 Sept 2006. The feedback received from the courses has been excellent.
The President Sunlite Cleaner Local 639 in Petawawa resigned 30 Sept 2006, there being no Vice President to move up to fill the position, and in consultation with the National President, the local Treasurer was informed to conduct an audit of their books and send it to Sister Jamieson, a hold was then placed on their rebate cheques at the National Office until the elections, which are scheduled for 28 Nov 2006. In the spring Sister Helen Logan, resigned as President, and their VP, Sister Donna Fowler moved up as President. A new VP, Sister Malwina Dix, then assumed the VP duties. In June Sister Fowler resigned and Sister Dix assumed the position of President. Now that Sister Dix has resigned, we are left with a local with only a Secretary, Treasurer and Chief Steward. Hopefully, during the AGM in Nov, the positions will be filled, failing that, it will be put before the National Executive to determine the next steps in regards to Local 639.
On behalf of UNDE and the Ontario Region members, I would like to thank the following members for their continued participation on the various PSAC and UNDE committees:
Ontario Region Training Coordinator - Sister Arlene Preston, Local 637
General Services (GS) Committee - Sister Barbara Bailey, Local 629
FR Steering Committee – Brother Serge Desbiens, Local 620
FR Wellness Committee – Brother Steve Gauthier, Local 629
ASR Committee – Brother Scott Stewart; Local 635
Ontario Region Employment Equity Coordinator - Brother Roger Dodier, Local 641
General Labour (GL) Committee – Brother Barry Turner
I would also like to thank Brother Barry Turner for all his assistance in his role as Deputy Vice President and in assisting in organizing the Sunlite local in Trenton. The affiliation meeting took place in Trenton on the 31 May 2006 with the members voting unanimously to affiliate with the Component. The local is currently working with the Alliance Rep to acquire their first collective agreement and during the last NBOD meeting, in Oct, they were officially assigned with UNDE. There are now, within ON Region, 13 locals -- 9 TB and 4 Separate Employer.
Fraternally,
Debra Nadeau
VP Ontario
