REPORT ON ALL CANDIDATES MEETING

OROMOCTO, NB

An All Candidates meeting hosted by PSAC’s Fredericton Area Council and the Regional Women’s Committee in conjunction with New Brunswick Federation of Labour’s District Labour Council and moderated by Barbara Roberts from the CBC, was held on Tuesday 17 Jan 06 at the Day’s Inn in Oromocto, NB.

Topics for discussion included Pension Reform, Pay Equity, National Child Care, Zone Rates of Pay, Anti-Scab Legislation, Reassignment of Pregnant and Nursing Workers, Service Canada and Privatization/Cuts to Public Services.

Three of the five candidates (MP Andy Scott (Liberal), Pat Lynch (Conservative), John Carty (NDP) responded to questions from the audience of over 100 labour workers, union members and stakeholders while David Amos (Independent) joined in towards the end of the debate. Members in the audience included Allison Brewer (Provincial NDP), Michel Boudreau (President NB Federation of Labour), Faye Tidd (Mayor for Oromocto) and various members of the Town Council.

Attendance also included meeting organizers UNDE Sister Debbie Graham (UNDE VP NL/NB and Alternate REVP Atlantic), UTE Sister Tania Hache (Chair Fredericton Area Council and Francophone Director, PSAC Atlantic Council), UPCE Sister Bea Breau (Chair Fredericton RWC), UNDE Brother Richard Morin (President District Labour Council) and UNDE Brother Ken Hoare (UNDE Local 60303) while UNDE Sister Michelle Richardson served as the timer and UNDE Brother Mike McFarland served as our photographer.
