Module 2 – Communication Skills (3 hours)

Objective - By the end of this module, participants will be able to:

• Demonstrate effective communication skills;
• Identify a communications model;
• Describe effective listening and its characteristics; and
• Recognize various aspects of body language and the message it can send.

Optional Section: Clear Language – Say What You Mean.
Developed by the Canadian Labour Congress, this training can be added to the Communications Module (an additional 7- 8 hours)

Objective - By the end of this module, participants will be able to:

• Identify the links between literacy, language, class and power;
• Describe why clear language is a union issue;
• Identify and understand the importance of writing for our audience;
• Identify ways to overcome resistance to clear language in the workplace and how to overcome; and
• Develop individual action plans to bring clear language to the membership.
