Life Membership Award
A Life Membership may be awarded by the Union, through the National Executive, to any member who has performed exemplary services for the membership through personal and devoted efforts in the affairs of the Union. Such membership shall be awarded in accordance with the following.
- Not more than one (1) life membership shall be in existence at any time for each 750 members in the Union.
- Life Membership may be proposed by a Local or by an elected National Executive Officer with concurrence of the Local. A copy of the motion proposing a candidate for life membership shall accompany each submission.
- Any member awarded life membership in the Union of National Defence Employees shall not be eligible to become an accredited delegate to the Union of National Defence Employees Triennial National Conventions, unless still employed by the Department of National Defence.
- A member receiving life membership in the Union of National Defence Employees shall also be recommended for life membership in the Public Service Alliance of Canada.
- Nominations for life membership in the Union may be made by any Local or member of the National Executive in respect of any member who:
i) has been a member of the Union or its predecessor organization (NDEA-CSAC) for a minimum of 20 years (not necessarily consecutive);
ii) has served a minimum of 15 years as an elected Union officer (not necessarily consecutive);
iii) has never at any time been disciplined under Bylaw 13 or acted in a manner detrimental to unionism;
iv) has performed exemplary services for the membership through personal and devoted efforts in the affairs of the Union.
- Not withstanding the guidelines provided above, a member may be nominated for a life membership if a single outstanding service to the Union has been performed. Such service must be far above the average contribution.
- All nominations shall be submitted on the prescribed form to the National Executive Standing Committee on Honours and Awards, in care of the National President. Applications submitted by a Local shall be reviewed and commented on by the appropriate Vice-President before it is forwarded to the Honours and Awards Committee.
- All applications for Life memberships in the Union shall be reviewed by the Standing Committee on Honours and Awards who will make appropriate recommendations to the National Executive.
