The 2006-2007 DND Scholarship Program

NATIONAL DEFENCE CIVILIAN EMPLOYEE EDUCATION SUPPORT PROGRAM REPORT

This was the 8th year that I have represented UNDE as a member of the Program Selection Committee. The education support program awards DND civilian employees with a year-long funded training opportunity. A total of 105 scholarships have been awarded since the program's inception in 1999. The number of applications received this year was 72, lower again than in the past (122 in 2004 and 91 in 2005). The attached slide presentation shows the breakdown of applicants by various categories.

In previous years the Committee has depleted the funds allocated to the program by granting more than the prerequisite eight scholarships. Unfortunately, the number of this year’s allocations was impacted by the changes made last year in regards to funding. Part of the 2006-2007 budget has had to be used to cover expenses carried over from last fiscal year. The Department will announce the winners within the coming weeks, usually before the end of May. All applicants will receive feedback from DGLDP. And the presentation ceremonies will take place in June.
